Privacy policy

Summary

• Calculators and quote checks work without an account and do not ask for your name, email or phone number.
• We store anonymous usage events (which calculator, which inputs, which result) to improve the site. They are not linked to you.
• If you request quotes from local contractors, we collect the contact details you enter, store them encrypted, pass them only to the named recipients shown on the form, and delete them after the retention period shown there.
• Contractor accounts store the business details you enter and the estimates you create. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your card number.
• You can ask for a copy, correction or deletion of your data at any time.

Who we are

The controller is American Build Rate, operated from Riga, Latvia (americanbuildrate.com). Send any data request (access, correction, deletion or anything else below) to hello@americanbuildrate.com. Because we are established in the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation applies to how we handle your data even though our services are aimed at the United States. Where United States state privacy laws (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act) apply, the rights described below are available to you as well.

What we collect and why

Calculators and quote checks

Inputs you type (dimensions, ZIP code, options, a quoted price) are processed to produce a result. Quote checks are stored without any identifier that could link them to you. Legal basis: legitimate interest in operating and improving the tools.

Usage events

We record product events such as "calculator viewed" or "result shown", the page path, a random session identifier stored in your browser for the session, and non-identifying properties. We do not store IP addresses or query strings in these events. Legal basis: legitimate interest.

Page analytics

When page analytics are switched on, Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits to our public pages. Its script sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Cloudflare gets the page address, the page that linked to it, your browser type and how long the page took to load, and says it doesn't fingerprint visitors by IP address or browser. It isn't used inside the app. Legal basis: legitimate interest.

Quote requests

If a "get quotes" form is available and you submit it, we collect the contact details and project details you enter, the exact consent text you saw, the time, your IP address and browser identifier (for consent records), and pass the request to the contractors or lead-matching partners named on the form. We keep an encrypted copy for the period stated on the form, then delete it. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw by contacting us. Where state law treats this as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, you can opt out using the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link in the footer once that feature is live, or by emailing us.

Contractor accounts

Name, email, business details, logo, clients and estimates you create, and subscription status. Payment details are processed by Stripe under its own privacy policy. Legal basis: performance of a contract.

Signing in with Google

If you sign in with Google, we ask Google for three scopes, openid, email and profile, and nothing else. That gives us your name, your email address and whether Google has confirmed it. We keep your name and email address in your account. We don't store your profile picture or any Google token, and we can't see your contacts, calendar, files or anything else in your Google account. Legal basis: performance of a contract.

Embedded calculator widgets

If you use a calculator embedded on a contractor's website, your submission goes to that contractor, who is the controller for it. We process it on their behalf and do not pass it to anyone else.

Cookies and storage

We use no advertising cookies. The session identifier is kept in your browser's session storage and disappears when you close the tab. Login sessions for the app use a cookie that is required for the service. An estimate you start before you have an account stays in your browser's local storage until you save it to an account or clear your browser. When you sign in with Google, a cookie that lasts ten minutes makes sure the sign-in you finish is the one you started.

Recipients

Hosting and database providers, email delivery, error monitoring, page analytics (Cloudflare), Stripe for payments, and, only when you request quotes, the recipients named on the form. We do not sell data to data brokers.

Retention

Anonymous events: up to 24 months. Quote checks: indefinitely, as anonymous data. Quote-request details: the period shown on the form, then deleted. Account data: while your account is open and for 90 days after closure, except records we must keep for tax purposes.

Your rights

Access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to withdraw consent. To use any of them, email hello@americanbuildrate.com. You may also complain to your supervisory authority; ours is the Latvian Data State Inspectorate.

Children

The site is not directed at anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We will post changes here and update the date at the top of the page. Material changes to how quote-request data is used will be announced on the form itself.
